God has been doing some very cool things in the hearts of those at Rising Above. In mid-September, a participant made a comment in passing that she would like to be baptized. In just a few short weeks, 6 other participants and one staff member came forward and expressed the same desire. It was clear what needed to happen...a baptism before the snow started to fly! We quickly put plans in motion to have a river baptism before the weather turned too cold to do so. The other option was to have the baptisms take place in a church. But everyone agreed that their relationship with God didn't start in the church. It started in the wild, rugged, unpredictable wilderness of life.
So, to the wild we went!
On Sunday, October 4th, 8 members of Rising Above proclaimed their faith before family and friends on the shores of the Wapiti River where Executive Director, Rev. Mel Siggelkow, had the honor of praying over and baptizing each person.
Colossians 2:12 - "For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead."
