Mentoring
One-on-one Mentoring
Spending time building a relationship with a participant in the program. Our participants need to learn how to develop healthy relationships and make positive life style choices. The mentoring relationship provides an opportunity to build into the life of a program participant while they are in the program and may also continue after they graduate and move on. Activities could be based on shared hobbies or interests, sharing a meal or working together on a project.
Extracurricular activities
Assisting the Personal Development Coordinator in carrying out extracurricular activities with the participants (swimming, bowling, hiking, etc.). This also provides an opportunity to build relationships with the participants, and assist them in building healthy lifestyles and relationships. This position may entail transporting participants to and from the activities. Own vehicle is an asset.
Life Skills Training
Cooking & Nutrition
Teaching cooking and/or baking skills with the participants in the program. Can include the basics of budgeting and shopping for what is needed for the meal, as well as teaching basic nutrition skills.
Fine Arts & Hobbies
Opportunities to teach different kinds of art or hobbies to the program participants: pottery, sewing, wood working, painting, etc. Could also involve activities like fishing or gardening.
Financial Services
Many of our participants need help with budgeting and personal finances. Volunteers with expertise are needed to assist participants in basic financial planning.
Professional Services
Taxes/Legal Services
Volunteers with expertise in these areas can offer services to program participants as part of the process of getting their lives back on track.
Haircuts
The services of a trained hairstylist or barber would be very much appreciated.
Dental Services
Offering dental services as needed to program participants.
